Lady Raiders advance to semi-finals

Soccer: The # 2 Lady Raiders host #3 Crossroads Christian Wednesday for a chance to play for the programs first state championship. The Lady Raiders won the previous matchup 1 – 0 in Belhaven just two weeks ago.
PCA advanced with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Kerr-Vance Academy of Henderson. Katie Baxter got things going for the Lady Raiders early with a goal in the opening minutes. Brooklyn Bowes added another goal off a cross from Baxter to make it 2 – 0. The Spartans nearly scored off a free kick when Autumn Gibbs made a dazzling save to keep Kerr Vance off the board. Neither team scored in the second half as Pungo moved to one win away from the finals.
Softball: PCA finished the season 12-5 after a 6-5 second round playoff loss to Fayetteville Christian. They struck first with a run in the top of the second, only for Pungo to answer with three in the bottom of the third. The Warriors scored five runs over the next three innings to take a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th.
PCA was able to close the gap to one run and had the winning run at the plate, but couldn’t score. Emma and EllaKate Hanna led the Raiders with two hits each. Anna Stoop fanned seven batters in 6.2 innings of work.
Baseball: #4 Pungo finished the season 10-9 after a 6-4 loss to #5 Cape Fear Christian Academy in the quarterfinals. The visiting Eagles opened with a three run first inning and plated another run before Pungo scored two in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead in half.
The Raiders struggled to find the strike zone in the 6th, walking in two runs before Bo Spencer came in and forced two pop outs to limit the damage.
PCA rallied in the bottom of the 7th and score two runs to cut the lead to two. Similar to softball, PCA’s season ended on a flyout as Cape Fear Christian advanced. Wells Eagles led PCA at the plate with two hits and four RBI. Bo Spencer, Parker Byrd and Evan Woolard all had two hits for Pungo.
