Our office is monitoring the chance for another round of severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Potential impacts for Beaufort County include:

Rain

• Rain chances are expected to increase after 2pm and continue through midnight, with most areas receiving ¼ of an inch.
• Our greatest chance of rain will be between 5pm and 9pm today.

Strong / Severe Thunderstorms

• Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible between 2pm and midnight, with our greatest chance occurring between 2pm and 8pm today.
• These storms will have the potential to produce wind gust up to 60mph, hail and isolated tornados.

We also ask that you take a moment today to ensure that you, your family, friends, and neighbors have a way of being notified of watches / warning. From the National Weather Service, Morehead City:

There will be a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms developing across portions of eastern North Carolina today.

Key Points

– The locations most likely to see severe thunderstorms are across the coastal plain, particularly south of Highway 64. This includes the Crystal Coast.

– The highest risk of strong storms will be between 4-8 pm, but activity could develop as early as 1-2 pm. Any severe threat will come to an end by 10-11 pm tonight.

– The primary severe risk is damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, but hail up to quarter sized is also possible. There is a marginal tornado threat mainly across the inner coastal plain.
