This marks the 13th time since softball changed to fast pitch in 1996 that the same school’s baseball and softball team made it to the state finals in the same year across all classifications.

1A: Cherryville 1998 and 2001 (defeated Northside 2-1 in eight innings for the title), South Stanly 2012 and Whiteville 2014 & 2017

2A: North Lenoir 2005 and South Granville 2015

3A: Fuquay-Varina 2000, East Rowan 2010, C.B. Aycock 2012 and D.H. Conley 2013

4A: Holly Springs 2011

Both Cherryville teams won state titles in 2001 as did North Lenoir in 2005, South Stanly in 2012 and South Granville in 2015. Only Fuquay-Varina in 2000 lost both championship series.
