Kelly Mandreth Eakes Groft, 51, of Greensboro, died Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, 2:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Friends will be received immediately following the service.

Kelly was born July 13, 1972 in Milledgeville, GA, the daughter of Mark and Georgene Eakes.

Kelly spent her early years in Greenville, NC and was a graduate of Rose High School. She attended UNCG where she received her BSW degree. Kelly went on to earn her MBA degree from the University of Arizona Global Campus. Kelly’s career focused on a love of and devotion to advocacy for seniors. This commitment was evidenced in her roles as a Long Term Care Ombudsman for the state of NC, Executive Director for assisted living facilities, member of the Guilford Co. Board of Commissioners Council on Aging and most recently as Chief Operating Officer of Senior Resources of Guilford County. Kelly’s primary joy was her family. She was also a consummate crafter who never encountered a project she was not willing to try. Kelly was a long standing Jimmy Buffet fan, once having a personalized license plate that read “Parothed”. In addition, Kelly routinely delighted her girls singing loudly in the car to music ranging from Disney tunes to the score from Hamilton.

Kelly was the loving wife of Dan and devoted mother to Sophia Grace and Madelyn Grey, who survive. She is also survived by her parents, Mark and Georgene Eakes of Chocowinity, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks with gratitude that memorials in Kelly’s name be made to the charity of your choice.
