Juvenile arrested in murder of 19-year-old woman

A 17-year-old male has been arrested in the fatal shooting of Rakylah Barrow, 19, of Washington, Washington Police Department announced today.
Given the suspect’s age, their identity is being withheld, per standard law enforcement practice.
On Monday, June 11 a juvenile petition was obtained on the 17-year-old for one open count of murder. Today, the juvenile was taken into custody and was remanded to the juvenile detention facility pending additional court hearings, the police department shared.
Washington police officers responded to a report of a shooting on Pontiac Drive on May 10. At the scene, they learned that the shooting victim, Barrow, had been transported by a private vehicle to ECU Health Beaufort to receive medical treatment for a gunshot wound to her upper right chest. Barrow was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival.
Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the shooting took place in the 1200 block of Maple Street.
A spokesperson for Beaufort County Schools confirmed the system was aware one of its students had been charged with murder.
