Have you ever asked yourself: Where did the rainbow come from? What does it truly mean? In the days we live in, the truth is being blurred by prideful people, who wish to change the truth to meet their intentions.

The truth is, the ‘Rainbow’, was made by God after the worldwide flood took place. He saved the lives of his faithful servant Noah and his family and two of every kind of animal, creature and living thing on earth.

The Rainbow is a covenant between God, man and all living creatures of the earth, that God would never again destroy all flesh with a worldwide flood.

Here is what the Bible says:

Genesis‬ ‭9‬:‭11‬-‭17‬ ‭‬‬‬‬
11. “Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12. And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13. I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
14. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud;
15. and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
17. And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.””

The rainbow has become a social and political symbol in recent years, one that goes against Christian values. This has occurred even though it has been a religious symbol for more than six thousand years.

Within Jewish and Christian teachings, the rainbow has been, and continues to be, a symbol of God’s lifelong covenant or promise to humankind, never to flood the earth again.

In the Bible the rainbow is seen as a sign of the covenant or promise of mercy and peace following the Flood, and it is also used (Revelation 10:1-6) to describe the glory of the soon-coming Messiah.

Clearly, then, it is a sacred symbol for Christians, a universal symbol of God’s mercy, and of hope for all of mankind. Its misuse by pressure groups, disrespects this God-appointed, ordained symbol. While the rainbow is a symbol of mercy, we must remember that God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7).

The visions John outlined in the book of Revelation are of One seated as Judge over the affairs of mankind; One who will ultimately bring judgment and holy fire to the earth (2 Peter 3:9-10).

The rainbow is evidence of God’s design and wonder in the world, which adds to the beauty of creation, and human existence, and should lead to praise and worship of Him and Him alone.

As Christian believers we should not be afraid to actively promote the rainbow as a universal symbol of God’s love and mercy towards mankind, and we should not allow it to be corrupted by single issue pressure groups. Such misappropriation undermines the ability of others to use the symbol for sacred purposes.

Jesus, who is seated in judgement over the affairs of men, wears the rainbow as an ongoing symbol of peace and mercy to those who repent of their sins and prideful hearts, and turn to Him.

13. “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.”

2. “When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”

Proverbs 16:5
5. “Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.”

As confusion about God’s rainbow continues to lead people astray, I challenge you to remember the true meaning behind The Rainbow.
