The Washington Wolfpack is preparing for their inaugural season of flag football by hosting a series of camps for interested players.
The team is a part of Under the Lights Flag Football league sponsored by Under Armor for kids from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and is available for all kids in the area.
Their first camp took place this past Saturday at Kugler Field with around 60-70 kids signed up to play. They will host four more camps before the season begins, camps being held July 12 and July 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and July 27 and August 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. all at Kugler Field.
The season will consist of 10 games starting on September 21 with six games at a time for different age groups. All home games will be played at Chocowinity Middle School. After the regular season, the best team will participate in a round-robin regional playoffs in Raleigh, with first and second place playing at the national level in Miami.
President of Under the Lights Flag Football for Washington DJ Stanley is excited for the opportunity the league can bring kids. “Flag football is growing around the nation, we want to provide an alternative for kids who might not want to play tackle,” Stanley said. “It is important for kids to stay active and to learn a skill. This will help kids accomplish both.”
Registration will be available through August 30 with the cost of $140 to play. The Wolfpack will host a variety of fundraisers to try to raise $14,000 so every kid who signs up can play for free.
