Haven’s Mill Pizza Co. opens in downtown

On Wednesday, June 26, they officially opened Haven’s Mill Pizza Co. – ten months after announcing they would occupy the historic building near the entrance of Pitt Street Brewing Company on the Pamlico in downtown Washington.

Monday and Tuesday of this week operated as soft openings so that Martin and Gill could find their rhythm between filling call-in and walk-up orders. 

Customers can purchase select pizzas by the slice, or a pie from the specialty menu. Haven’s Mill offers a mix of classic and unique flavors that are baked on a New York style crust – from cheese and pepperoni to Nashville hot chicken and one called “Garbage.” 

The “Garbage” has been the most popular pie this week. It is topped with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, beef, mushroom, onion, green bell pepper and black olives. With an olive oil and fresh mozzarella base, the Nashville has breaded chicken and a hot chicken sauce, ranch dressing and bread and butter pickles. 

Garlic knots, a calzone and a stromboli  are on the menu, too. 

Gill and Martin ask the public for a little patience as they find their groove. They are the only employees preparing and baking handmade pizzas. The earlier a customer can call-in an order, the easier it is for them to fill it on time in addition to filling walk-up orders, they advise. 

“We don’t want to be an assembly line pizza shop. We want to be more on the craft side of things,” Martin said.  

“This is a passion project for us… We just want to make great pizza every day and be happy while we’re doing it,” Gill said. 

Martin and Gill are the former owners of Pizzeria Veritas in Cary which is now known as Rigo’s Pizzeria. They moved to Washington for the quaint atmosphere and slower pace of life, they shared in an earlier interview with the Daily News. 

Haven’s Mill Pizza Co. is located at 311 W. Main Street. They are open Monday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. then 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but reopen on Thursday from 1 a.m.-2 p.m. then 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
