Whitecaps win in Kinston

The combined Washington Whitecaps/Minges Makos youth swim team cruised past the Kinston Kingfish in their most recent meet.

The Whitecaps are 2-1 after a 551-375 victory at the Kinston Community Center, with three meets and the championship meet still to come.

Aubrey Makepeace earned swimmer of the meet honors after sweeping the 11-12 50 freestyle (34.24), breaststroke (48.81) and butterfly (40.33).

In other results, Penelope Valverde won the 6u mixed 100 medley relay in 3:02.74 and finished second in the 25 freestyle (54.07) and backstroke (1:05.68)

Wallace Atkins swept the girls 7-8 25 freestyle (19.67), backstroke (23.29) and mixed 100 freestyle relay (2:10.83).

Lillian Russell was second in the girls 9-10 50 backstroke (1:01.04), mixed 200 freestyle relay (3:08.38) and the 50 freestyle (43:18).

Hayley Pake won the girls 50 backstroke (46.66) and was part of the first place mixed 200 freestyle relay (2:48.06). She finished second in the 50 breaststroke (54.44) and third in the 100 individual medley (2:08.1).

Anna Brey Pake won the girls 14u 100 individual medley (1:21.58), the 50 breaststroke (42.04) and was part of the first place mixed 200 medley relay (2:43.48). She finished second in the girls 50 freestyle in 30.38.

On the boys side, Grover Russell was part of the winning 7-8 mixed 100 freestyle relay (2:10.83), took fifth in the 25 freestyle (39.15) and was sixth in the 25 backstroke (42.16).

Jordan Truesdell swam on the winning 11-12 mixed 200 freestyle relay (2:12:30), and finished third in the 50 freestyle (41.61) and the 50 breaststroke (1:03.39).
