Washington High School standout pitcher Emma Orr is a member of the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association 2A All-State team for the third straight year and is the 2A Co-Pitcher of the Year for the first time.

Teammates Addison Miller and Carly Woolard are first-time selections after the Pam Pack went 18-4 overall with a trip to the third round of the state playoffs.

Orr shared Pitcher of the Year honors with Eastern Wayne’s Mallory Reed after going 18-4 with a 1.04 earned run average. She struck out 238 batters in 128.1 innings and walked 28.

“She knew going into the season that she would be our workhorse and she worked hard to get ready,” coach Brad Horton said. “Her record speaks to her success, but she also improved as a hitter and as a leader. She was a huge help to our younger players and matured into her leadership role. She’s never been complacent with her success and is always working to get better.”

Orr, Miller and Woolard were also named to the Eastern Plains 2A All-Conference team and to the coaches association All-District squad.

Miller, a junior catcher, hit .465 with 15 hits of her 33 hits for extra bases, including 11 doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs.

\Woolard, a sophomore first baseman, who spent her freshman year in the outfield, had a breakout season with a .478 average, 22 runs batted in and 16 extra base hits that included 10 doubles, four triples and two home runs.

“Both of them worked extremely hard in the off-season to prepare and it paid off for them,” Horton said. “Not many runners tried to steal on Addison because of her arm and Carly did well adapting to first base. All three of them put in the work to improve their hitting and I’m glad all three of them are coming back.”
