The Washington Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce (WBCCC) has announced the appointment of Ashley Padgett as the new Bright Futures Coordinator. Padgett, who retired from Beaufort County Schools in October 2023, has been an integral part of the Bright Futures program since its inception a decade ago. This part-time role marks a new chapter in her ongoing commitment to the community.

“We are excited about Ashley’s leadership for the future!” said Catherine Glover, Executive Director of the WBCCC. “Over the past decade, she has supported Bright Futures in various capacities, recognizing the importance of meeting the fundamental needs of Beaufort County students through collaborative efforts with the Chamber and the community’s generosity.”

Padgett’s extensive experience and dedication to the cause have positioned her well for this role.

“I’m excited to step into this new position,” said Padgett. “The Chamber’s expanding needs for Bright Futures required additional hours, and it was decided that hiring someone part-time would be the best solution. I’m looking forward to taking on more of what Robin McKeithen has been doing.”

McKeithen, who has been splitting her time between the Chamber and Bright Futures, will now focus more on her Chamber responsibilities. Padgett expressed her admiration for McKeithen’s work, acknowledging the strong foundation she has built.

“Robin’s amazing, so this transition is seamless,” emphasized Padgett. “I will be working with the community, school system, volunteers, businesses and various groups to expand Bright Futures and continue to meet the basic needs of our students. We’re also looking at ways to support similar programs in other school systems.”

Padgett’s vision includes leveraging her school background and existing relationships with counselors and administrators to enhance the program’s impact.

In addition to her new role, Padgett is enthusiastic about upcoming initiatives and fundraising efforts.

“We’re promoting a ‘Christmas in July’ fundraiser and exploring other fun activities,” shared Padgett.
