The Main Stop Deli and Eatery will aim to be the next one stop shop for good food and groceries when it opens in a few weeks.
The Main Stop will be Washington’s third delicatessen behind Big Belly Deli and Daddy Dave’s Deli. It is owned and operated by the Darars who own and operate The Mulberry House. They plan to have a grand opening on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Located at 225 W Main Street, The Main Stop will offer a selection of sandwiches and salads topped with Boar’s Head meats. There will also be a convenience store section for boaters needing basic supplies, Reem Darar shared.
The menu, so far, will include classic deli sandwiches like french dip, pastrami on rye, a club, an Italian sausage with peppers, mushrooms and onions in addition to chicken sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches and burgers, said Jquan Moore, executive Chef at The Mulberry House and The Main Stop. Sides are planned to be slaw, waffle fries, hushpuppies and chips. Main Stop will offer salads as well.
Prices have yet to be determined, but Darar said the goal is to make them “affordable for everyone.”
At Main Stop, customers will be able to place online and delivery options. Darar described Main Stop as a “cafeteria-style” deli as opposed to a full service restaurant. Take out orders will be the primary focus of the deli.
Darar said the transformation of downtown Washington has been “amazing” to watch. The transformation, she said, is helping to “draw people from out of town.”
“When you bring people in from out of town, it helps all of the businesses,” Darar said. “They’re not just going to stop at one restaurant, but they are going to stop at all different types of restaurants, and they’re going to stop at the stores and they’re going to stop at the gift shops and grab some ice cream. They’re going to do it all.”
