Whitecaps claim state title

The combined Washington Whitecaps/Minges Makos summer swim team won the state tournament by a narrow margin last weekend in Tarboro.
The local squad defeated the Tridents from Winterville by 2.5 points to claim the title, 565.5 to 563.
Anna Brey Pake was part of the championship 14u mixed 200-freestyle relay team (1:55.87) and finished third in the 50-breaststroke (42.10), fourth in the 50-freestyle (31.07) and fifth in the 100-individual medley (1:20.58).
Aubrey Makepeace was part of the 12u championship mixed 200-freestyle relay (2:15.83) and finished fifth in the 50-butterfly (39.69), sixth in the 50-freestyle (33.64) and eighth in the 50-breaststroke (47.76).
Hayley Pake was part of the sixth place 15u mixed 200-freestyle relay (2:21.35) and finished 11th in the 12u 50-backstroke (47.24) and 20th in the 50-freestyle (40.05).
Penelope Yaryan Valverde was 11th in the 6u 25-backstroke (48.14) and 17th in the 25-freestyle (51.51)
Cole Blanks led the boys team with a win in the 12u 50-freestyle (31.26) and was part of the winning 12u mixed medley relay team (2:27.80). He also finished second in the 50-butterfly (34.79) and third in the 100-indivudal medley (1:21.95).
Camden Hamilton was part of the first place 12u mixed 200-freestyle relay (2:15.83), finished second in the 50-backstroke (43.72), fourth in the 50-freestyle (34.07) and sixth in the 50-breaststroke (45.07).
Lucas Blanks finished second in the 8u 25-freestyle (18.09) and second in the 25-backstroke (24.07).
Jordan Truesdell finished 19th in the 12u 50-freestyle in 41.30 while Grover Russell was 14th in the 8u 25-backstroke (37.79) and 26th in the 25-freestyle (32.66)
