Every town in Eastern North Carolina has a local place to eat where local folks can go and tell people their opinions. Here in Washington, we have Shep’s Grill, Hardee’s and Pam’s where you can pass on your opinions
about the world.

There is a place in Williamston called Skeeter Hollow that is located behind Lilley International that keeps up the tradition. They get together every Thursday night to bring up subjects that most people in Martin Co. are not interested in. It was first started by Laurence Lilley and carried over by his son Laurence Jr. They cover every subject from who is running for office to high school football coaches.

These men have banded together and formed a Sports Club and bought an activity bus. The weight that club has in Williamston, from buying an activity bus to hiring a football coach or teachers.

These are some of my best friends, because they raised me after 31 years of my career and because they had large influence on my life! They’ve always supported me whether I was right or wrong.

Their sons go up there now and don’t know how much influence they have in Martin County.! They hold a lot of clout in Martin County. I feel honored that I am one of their members. They were at my induction into the NCHSAA Hall of Fame and I appreciated that they were there.

They were best of times with the best of friends and in the best of places Washington, NC. The Original Washington!
