Melanie Latham Wallace Buckman, 82, of Washington, NC, passed away on August 8th, 2024, at her home on the Pamlico river. She was born on September 3rd, 1941, in Washington, NC, to Fenner Thomas Wallace and Leslie Lucille Latham.

Melanie Latham Wallace Buckman was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother. Though she worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, she considered herself a writer and a teacher. Melanie was a Marshal in high school and voted best looking in her class (class of ’59). She was brilliant and completed a Bachelor of Science in English at East Carolina University. She enjoyed reading, writing, and spending time with her loved ones at her river home. Being an accomplished writer, she researched and completed family histories for her and her husband’s lineage. She was actively involved in her church, serving as a member of the Women’s Society, a Circle Leader for young women, the Church Board of Directors, and the Missions Chairperson. She volunteered at the soup kitchen in town as well as Bread for the World.

Melanie Latham Wallace Buckman is survived by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Franklin Buckman Sr., her four sons: Thomas “Tommy” F. Buckman Jr. (Michelle), W. Todd Buckman (Lynn), Bryan W. Buckman, and Drew L. W. Buckman (Laura); her sisters Leslie Thomas (Wofford) and Patricia Wallace, and her brother Fenner Andrew Wallace (Gloria); 6 grandchildren, 1 step granddaughter and 1 step-great-grand child. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leslie Lucille Latham and father, Fenner Thomas Wallace, and two infant brothers.

A memorial service will be held on August 14th, 2024, at 11 am at the First Methodist Church, 304 W 2nd Street, Washington, NC. There will be an hour visitation with the family immediately preceding the service.
