Thompson “Tom” Hollingsworth Forbes, Sr., age 91 a resident of Washington died, Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford, NC.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Wayside Presbyterian Church with Worth Forbes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Forbes Family Cemetery. Daniel Forbes, Mark Forbes, Thompson Forbes III, Joshua Daniel Forbes, Jason Forbes, and Worth Forbes will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, August 16, 2024, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, and other times at the home of Daniel Forbes, 2435 Robersonville Rd. Washington, NC.
Tom was born on October 18, 1932, in Pitt County to the late Ola Forbes, Sr. and Edna Smith Forbes. Tom retired as a tobacco buyer and farmer. He was member of Wayside Presbyterian Church. Tom was an avid bear hunter, a talented artist and musician. He and his brother played music as the “Forbes Brothers” downtown Washington. Tom was also a writer; he had written two books. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Glover Forbes, a sister, Anne Forbes Bell and a brother, Ola Forbes, Jr.
Survivors include his sons, Worth Forbes, Jr. (Karen) of Greenville, Mark Forbes (Amy) of Cary and Daniel Ellsworth Forbes (Jaime Woolard) of Washington, brother, Bill Forbes (Gloria) of Colorado, grandchildren, Thompson Forbes (Julie), Caroline Burroughs (Jason), Camille Rizzi (Paul), Adam Forbes (Haley), Joshua Daniel, Zoe MacKay and Katie Irene Forbes, Grayson and Danica Woolard, great grandchildren, Braxton, Garrison, Anna Forbes, many cherished nieces and nephews.
