As the fall sports season begins, here’s a preview of the Pungo Christian Academy cross country and tennis teams.
Last year marked the first time in program history that PCA sent both a girls and boys team to the state championship Cross Country meet. Building off that growth, the Raiders now have over 20 runners signed up for the
2024 season and are looking to expand on their success this year.

Luke Rouse, who finished second in the conference and 12th in the state a season ago, is the top returning runner. His younger sister, Taylor Rouse, aims to lead the girls team this fall. The Raiders are coached by Tia Copes who is entering her fourth year with the program and third year as head coach.

In just their second year as a program, the Lady Raiders tennis team finished in the top three in the Tarheel Independent Conference and earned the 5th seed in the NCISAA 1A State Tournament a season ago.

Six seniors graduated, leaving sophomore Juliette Pence and freshman Lilly Prince as the only returners. Sayla Brown (Sr), Maggie Balance (Sr), Bailey Hodges (Sr) and Emily Copes (So) have decided to give tennis a shot and try to help keep the program going for another season.

Jason Williamson returns for his second season as head coach and hopes to continue the upward trajectory of the program.

Their schedule is highlighted by matches against Oakwood School and Christ Covenant along with conference matches against defending 1A State Champion Ridgecroft School.
