In loving memory of Mary “Boots” Cahoon Brown, May 20, 1938 – August 11, 2024.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Cahoon Brown, but with joy knowing she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Boots loved her family and friends and prayed fervently for them daily. She was a mighty prayer warrior and was a part of the intercessory prayer team at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida. She loved this nation and prayed weekly with Intercessors for America.

She was an avid gardener with the most amazing floral and vegetable display. Every plant diligently arranged as if the Master Designer had planted Himself. Her artwork showcased beauty in creation and won awards at the Beaufort County NC Arts Council art contest. She created banners for the Presbyterian church and did calligraphy. In high school she was an accomplished pianist and performed with the East Carolina University Symphony Orchestra.

More than any earthly accomplishment, she leaves behind a strong spiritual legacy in her children and grandchildren. She delighted in listening to her grandchildren perform and sing, watching them play sports, boogie boarding along with them in the waves, reading stories and telling of days gone by at Ocracoke and seeing the reward of diligently training her children in the way they should go.

Boots was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ann-Elizabeth Doyle Brown, husband, John Wiggins Brown, Jr., sister, Anita Cahoon Franklin, brother, Ralph Forbes Baker, Jr., mother, Mary Mallison Baker, stepfather, Ralph Forbes Baker, and father, Samuel Clyde Cahoon.

She is survived by her daughter, Eliza Brown Miller (Mark) and her sons, John Christopher Barfield and David Aaron Barfield; son, John Wiggins Brown, III (Cora) and his son, John-Paul Wiggins Brown (Fahlon) and daughter, Rebekah Brown Renegar (Brice); and daughter, Mary Ann Brown Bunyasaranand (John) and her son, John Ian Bunyasaranand, and daughters, Anna Maria Bunyasaranand, Ella Elizabeth Bunyasaranand, and Olivia Grace Bunyasaranand as well as seven great grand children.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the home of John and Cora Brown including visitation with the family immediately following.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Samaritans Purse.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Felecia Allen and staff with Brown’s Senior Care for taking excellent care of our mother the last few months of her life.
