Volleyball: The PCA Lady Raiders opened their 2024 campaign with a 3 – 1 record through their first four games. Pungo dropped its opening match against Arendell Parrott Academy but has since won three straight with victories over TEACH, Crossroads Christian and Epiphany School. Anna Stoop (six) and Bristol Cutrell (four) lead the team in service aces per match. Raylee Lynch (14) and Julia Rouse (12) lead the team in kills. Stoop is also the team leader in assists with 28.5 per match. PCA travels to Unity Christian and Cape Hatteras this week.

Soccer: The Raiders Soccer started their 2024 season with losses to Arendell Parrott Academy and The Oakwood School. Pungo was held scoreless against the Patriots in their 9 – 0 defeat but scored three times in Friday’s loss to Oakwood School. Ryan Taylor opened the scoring with a goal off a Bruce Taylor corner. Taylor scored next off a penalty kick and Brody Tooley added the third goal. The Raiders hosted NEAAAT Tuesday and travel to Cape Hatteras Thursday.

Tennis: The Lady Raiders suffered a season-opening 9 – 0 loss to John Paul II of Greenville on Thursday. Lilly Prince had the closest game of the match, falling 8 – 3 in her singles set. The Raiders travel to Christ Covenant School and Bertie High School this week.

Cross Country: Trent Armstrong and Taylor Rouse each placed first individually at the opening Tar Heel Independent Conference meet at Albemarle School. It was the first varsity race for both. The Lady Raiders finished first on the day while the boys finished in third. The teams will be back in action on Monday, September 9th when the Raiders host their lone meet of the season.

Football: It was a tale of two halves for the Pungo Christian Academy football team Friday night. The Raiders found themselves up 14 – 12 at the end of the first half before being outscored 24 – 0 in the second to fall to St. Davids School in Raleigh. Carr Eagles led the Raiders in passing, completing 4 of 9 passes for 120 yards. Parker Byrd had his first career 100 yard receiving night, catching 3 passes for 112 yards. Austin Gibbs led the rushing attack with 63 yards while Carr and Wells Eagles each rushed for a touchdown. Byrd and McKinney Waters each had 10+ tackles in the loss. The Raiders have the week off before hosting Mattamuskeet next Friday.
