Mrs. Monna Jay Toler Cutler, age 91, a resident of Chesapeake, VA and a former resident of Washington, NC died Friday, August 23, 2024 at Chesapeake Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Cutler was born in Beaufort County on February 11, 1933.  She was the daughter of the late Clifton Leo Toler and the late Flora E. Elks Toler. She was also predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Clifton C. Cutler.

She was a graduate of Washington High School and continued her education by receiving her Bachelor‘s Degree from East Carolina Teachers College.  Later, she completed her Master’s Degree from Old Dominion University.  After teaching for 42 years, she retired from Chesapeake Public Schools.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Jaycees, Great Bridge Women’s Club (a founding member), and Centerville Baptist Church in Chesapeake.

Survivors include her children: Corrine Cutler Andrews (Paul) of Chesapeake, VA and Clifton C. “Neil” Cutler, Jr. (Julie) of Currituck, NC; grandchildren Jordan Andrews (Tarah), Brett Andrews (Hayley), Lauren Cutler (David), and Noah Cutler; great grandchildren Hunter Musbach and Lillian Andrews, as well as many special family members.

A brother, Clifton L. Toler, Jr. and a sister, Brenda E. Toler Hill, both of Washington, NC, also predeceased Mrs. Cutler.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks memorial contributions should be made to Great Bridge Women’s Club to fund a scholarship in honor of Monna.  Contributions can be sent to GFWC Great Bridge Woman’s Club, 609 Piping Rock Drive, Chesapeake, VA. 23322.  Please make checks payable to GFWC Great Bridge Woman’s Club with scholarship in the memo line.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Pastor Greg Barmer. Pallbearers will be Jordan Andrews, Brett Andrews, Noah Cutler, Daren Hill, Ryan Hill, and Kenneth Roebuck.
