After being closed for over seven months, the East Main Street Bridge has reopened.

The bridge closed, because a vehicle recovery effort made in Jack’s Creek in February exposed some ongoing issues with the bridge. The work included repairs to the bridge and the replacement of the sewer line that runs through there and the water line.

“Everything is done except for the striping of the pavement, so we decided to go ahead and reopen it,” said Hope Woolard, the City of Washington’s Public Works Director. “A lot of people go through that area. Many use the little park there by Havens Gardens, and others enjoy parking in the gravel area right before the bridge to take in the views of the river. We are so glad that it is finally open and available to everyone to use once again.”
