VANCEBORO, N.C. — Senior Chavez Pullman recorded a hat trick for Southside’s soccer team in a 5-1 win over West Craven on Wednesday in non-conference play.

Southside (6-5) scored all of its goals in the first half. Freshmen Marcos Gonzalez and Rocha Madilla also scored goals. Freshman Arturo Ramos had three assists and Junior Rayquan Blount had one

Jaheem Blount had six saves for the Seahawks, who improved to 6-5 overall.

Southside hosts Bear Grass Charter on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.

Terra Ceia volleyball tops Unity Christian

CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Terra Ceia’s volleyball team won a crucial match on Tuesday against Unity Christian Academy.

The Knights picked up a 25-11, 25-14, 22-25, 26-24 win in Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association play. The win by the Knights came after Unity won the first conference meeting on Aug. 22, 3-1 (15-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18).

Terra Ceia improved to 9-3 overall, 7-2 in conference play heading into Thursday’s match with Pamlico Christian Academy. The Knights have won four of their last five matches.

For Unity Christian Academy, the defeat snapped the Warriors’ three-game winning streak and left them at 10-6 overall, 8-2 in the conference, one-half game ahead of Terra Ceia. The Warriors were off Thursday.

Leah Harrison finished with 21 service points, four kills and a block for Terra Ceia. Lakin Van Essendelft added 14 kills, 2 service points and a block while Mary Elliott had 14 service points, three kills, a block and 17 assists.

Rylei Smith led Unity Christian with 13 kills while Gabby Broadribb had nine kills.

Northeast Middle football wins opener

BEAR GRASS, N.C. — Northeast Middle School won its season opener on Wednesday, holding off Bear Grass Charter, 18-16.

Zakari Woods, an eighth grader, had three rushing touchdowns at quarterback. He also had two tackles on defense.

Jonathan Cochran finished with three solo tackles while Zymir Nixon had four tackles, one for a loss. Both are also eighth graders.
