Driver cited in wreck that shutdown Chocowinity intersection

A driver has been cited with failure to yield following a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Bragaw Lane in Chocowinity.

The driver, 31-year-old Josphina Villalobos, was traveling south on U.S. 17 in a SUV when she attempted to make a left turn from U.S. 17 onto Bragaw Lane. She struck a pickup truck owned by Pools Unlimited in Washington, according to an official with North Carolina State Highway State Patrol.

After the collision, Villalobos’ SUV rolled over onto its side on the shoulder of the road. All four occupants inside the SUV as well as the front seat passenger of the pickup truck were transported to ECU Health Beaufort in Washington with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, according to state troopers.

Villalobos was cited with failure to yield. Chocowinity Fire and EMS as well as EMS 2 from the City of Washington responded to the scene.
