Hello, friends. If you’ve been here before, thanks for coming again. If this is your first time, welcome. I hope you don’t feel it’s time wasted.
That said, let me begin. For those who know me and my interests fairly well, then you just might recall that I am drawn to sayings, quotations, beliefs, that are articulate, thought provoking, challenging, emotion providing, even memory reawakening.
Hence today’s column. Please don’t look for a thematic concatenation of these quotations. Think of it more as an a la carte menu of “ponderables”. A free-of-price menu, however.
I’ll offer a few.
“What do differences of blood, race and skin color matter in relation to the soul?” (Alexander Hohenstein – from diary of 1941-42 in Germany) from “The Lost Life of Eva Braun” by Angela Lambert.
“If you think the world is selfish and rotten go to the cemetery at Calleville-sur-Mer overlooking Omaha Beach – see what one group of men did for another on D-Day, June 6, 1944.” (Andy Rooney)
“Within your heart keep one still, secret spot where dreams may go, and sheltered so, may thrive and grow where doubt and fear are not. Oh, keep a place apart, within your heart, for little dreams to go.”
(Louise Driscoll)
“A mob is a place where people go to get away from their conscience.” (Anon)
“O God, Early in the morning do I cry unto thee. Help me to pray, and to think only of thee.
“I cannot pray alone. In me there is darkness, But with thee there is light. I am lonely, but thou leavest me not.
“I am feeble in heart, but thou leavest me not.
“I am restless, but with thee there is peace. There is no bitterness, but with thee there is patience.
“Thy ways are past understanding, but Thou knowest the way for me.” By Dietrich Bonhoeffer from “Bonhoeffer – Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy” by Eric Metaxas.
“The first hundred years are the hardest.” (Anon)
“Keep Hope Alive!” (Rev. Jesse Jackson)
“Time is just an idea in the mind of God.” (Anon)
NOTE – Should you possibly be so inclined, that is, to read of one of the 20th Century’s truly unique men, let me recommend the book previously referenced, by Eric Metaxas.
