Ten members of the Chocowinity Middle School history club recently paid a visit to the history center at Brown Library. The first-year club meets monthly and comes up with a different topic of interest to the students. Mandy Knox, an 8th grade teacher of North Carolina and US history, is also a co-sponsor of the club, along with fellow teacher Suzan Strickler. Cox said oftentimes, history is a forgotten subject for the kids as they feel it is outdated and boring.

“That just isn’t the case,” said Knox. “I tell them history is alive and being made every day, and they are a part of it. Just look at their lifetime and the pandemic as an example. One day, they will be talking to their grandkids about that.”
