Local artists honored at fine art exhibition

Local artists recently showcased their work at the 60th Annual Alice Hubbard Stallings Juried Fine Arts Exhibition at the Turnage Theatre. Hosted by the Beaufort County Arts Council, the annual event celebrates artistic excellence and supports and uplifts artists in the community. There were 107 entries, including 2D works in acrylics, oils, watercolors, and mixed media, along with 3D works including ceramics, jewelry, textiles, woodworking, metalwork, glass, and more. There were $6,900 in cash prizes, which included $2,000 for Best of Show and $1,000 for the Alice Hubbard Stallings Award of Excellence.

“Fire Redbird Box” by Carolyn Sleeper – Irene Glover Forbes Award
“A Place at the Table” by Tracey Penrod – Best of 2D
“Lady in Satin” by “Mike” James Bennett – Betty P. Crompton Award for Best of Oils
“Saving Finches” by Barbara Hardy – Best of Acrylics
“Summer Kitchen” by Jacqueline Clark – Best of Watercolors
“Torn Asunder” by Dindy Reich – Best of Mixed Media
“Stepping Out” by David W. Edwards – Best of 3D
