Driving the roundabout at Douglas Crossroads at night has some Washington and Beaufort County residents understandably concerned. With limited sources of lighting around the perimeter of the roundabout, it can be difficult to navigate the new traffic pattern. However, nighttime visibility at the roundabout will improve this week, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

A contractor working with NCDOT was at the roundabout today (Monday, Nov. 18) installing pavement markings and reflective markers, a department spokesperson shared with the Daily News. “This work should improve nighttime visibility by increasing reflectivity,” the spokesperson wrote in an email.

“Installation of the final pavement markings should be completed on the roundabout and the adjacent bulb-out project this week,” they continued.

There is no additional cost for the project, because adding reflective markings are included in original construction costs.
