High schools will be busy in hoops tourneys this week

Three high school basketball tournaments, two outside of Beaufort County, mark a busy second half of the week.
Northside’s boys and girls will each host the Basketball Kickoff Tournament on Thursday and Friday. After playing Parrott Academy on Thursday, Pungo Christian will be at Ridgecroft School on Friday and Saturday for the Doug Cobbs Scholarship Invitational Tournament. Washington will head to the Outer Banks for a game Saturday against Northern Nash in the Good Guys vs. Cancer Basketball Showcase at First Flight High School.
Basketball Kickoff Tournament at Northside
Bear Grass Charter, TEACH out of Washington and Northeast Academy For Aerospace and Advanced Tech (NEAT) from Elizabeth City are in the event. On Thursday, Bear Grass’ girls face TEACH at 4 p.m. with the two schools’ boys basketball teams playing at 5:30 p.m.
Northside’s girls host NEAT at 7 p.m. with the two schools’ boys teams playing at 8:30 p.m. The winners of Thursday’s games will play at 7 (girls) and 8:30 p.m. (boys) on Friday with the losers playing at 4 (girls) and 5:30 p.m. (boys).
Good Guys vs. Cancer Basketball Showcase at First Flight
Games began Wednesday at First Flight involving schools from all over North Carolina and Virginia. Play continues at First Flight, located in Kill Devil Hills, through Saturday.
Washington and Northern Nash play on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., the fourth game of the day. You can watch the games and keep up with the schedule at the tournament’s website. Search “Good Guys vs. Cancer Basketball Showcase at First Flight” on Google.
Doug Cobbs Scholarship Invitational Tournament at Ridgecroft School
Pungo Christian’s boys and girls play on Friday against Southampton (Va.) Academy. Pungo’s girls play at 3 p.m. with the boys following at 5 p.m.
Schools from Lawrence Academy, Brunswick Academy, Northeast Academy, Kenton Forest, Tidewater Academy and Ridgecroft School are scheduled to compete in the two-day tournament. Pungo’s opponents for Saturday will be determined based on play on Friday.
