CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Jeff Carrow has announced he has stepped down as Southside High School football coach.
Carrow, who has been with the school as head football coach for 12 years, made the announcement on the school’s Facebook page on Wednesday. He also stated he would remain in the program as an assistant coach.
It was also announced that the school’s athletic director, Andrea Quinerly, will take over the role. He has been with the program as an assistant coach.
“I have had the pleasure of coaching high school football for 23 years and have served as the head coach of the Seahawks program for 12 of those years,” Carrow said. “The Lord has blessed me to be a member of Seahawk Nation for a total of 18 years. I am officially stepping down as head coach of the Seahawks football program BUT I am truly blessed with the opportunity to continue to be a part of my Southside football family as an assistant coach moving forward.
“This decision to step down, but not away, is a decision that has not been made lightly, but the need to be available and spend more time with my family has driven this decision. My family and I have prayed and are ready to embrace and trust God’s will for our future.
“Lastly, I would like to thank ALL the players, coaches, administrators, families, and community members that have supported me throughout my tenure as head coach and remember, I will always bleed teal and will continue to help serve Seahawk Nation!”
Southside finished the 2024 season 1-10 overall, 1-3 in the Coastal Plains Conference. The Seahawks fell to Warren County, 46-0, in the first round of the Class 1-A state playoffs.
Quinerly stated in the Facebook post that he has the program’s best interests in mind. In addition to being the school AD and assistant football coach, he’s also been serving as the school’s head track and field coach.
“Fellow Coaches and Staff, Student Athletes, Parents, and Community members have assurance that the transition within the Seahawk Family will serve to promote excellence for the program. We are: “One Team, One Goal, One Seahawk Family.”
