There’s a downside to aging

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I have an appointment with Dr. David Lewis tomorrow morning at 10:00. The Golden Age! Guarantee says there will be something wrong with me or I’ll have aches and pain all over my body. Do others hurt? The older I get the more I hurt?

The first thing to leave my body was my hand and eye co-ordination. The thing I relied on most was my co-ordination, which helped me a lot when I was coaching. I fell off the porch the other day and cracked my ribs.

The next thing that I lost was my eyesight. My eyes have been bad for reading since I was a teacher. Seeing my roll book was hard enough and my arms had to get longer so that I could see my roll book.

The next that went was my weight. I work out everyday and see my weight climbing. My body mass keeps climbing. I workout every day for 75 minutes. I can’t lose any weight, much less lose BMI.

The next was my memory. I’m not as sharp as I used to be with remembering names. Recruiting football players was my forte and I can’t think of anybody’s names anymore.

My strength is not as good as it used to be. I could bench press 400 lbs. and I was plenty strong . Strong enough that I won the weight room trophy
award. Now I can’t screw the bottle cap off the bottle of aspirin.

Something is wrong with everybody. Diabetes, your eyes and hearing loss. They are things I have to put up with in the morning.

Earl is the youngest at our table in the mornings at Sheps. We have 86-87 year olds and they give plenty of good advice in the morning to get the day started off right.

They were the best of times with the best of friends in the best of places, Washington, N.C. the Original Washington.
