CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CIAA recognized former Southside High School star KaNyah O’Neal for her play this past week for Fayetteville State.

O’Neal was named CIAA Rookie of the Week after she scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 1-for-2 from 3-point range in a 70-57 win over Benedict College on Dec. 11. She also had two rebounds, an assist and four steals over 26 minutes of play, her most this season. She was the first substitute in the game.

That performance followed a 13-point game she had against Florida Southern on Nov. 29, which was her previous high. She also had two steals in that game.

Fayetteville State improved to 5-4 overall heading into Tuesday’s CIAA opener against Elizabeth City State. For the season, she’s averaging 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds a game while shooting nearly 44% from the field.
