Where Are They Now: Former Southside star honored again

For the second straight week, the CIAA recognized former Southside High School basketball star KaNyah O’Neal.
O’Neal was named CIAA Rookie of the Week again after her performance helped the Broncos go 2-1 for the week to improve to 7-5 overall, 2-1 in the CIAA. She had five points, a rebound and three assists in Fayetteville State’s 74-53 conference win on Dec. 21 against Bluefield State. A couple of days earlier, in a 65-46 CIAA win over Virginia State, O’Neal had six points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Broncos opened CIAA play with a 52-49 loss to Elizabeth City State on Dec. 17. She had six points, four rebounds and two assists.
O’Neal had 28 points and six steals in two games on Dec. 2 and 11 to earn her first CIAA Rookie of the Week honors.
For the season, she’s averaging 6.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.9 steals.
Reid enters transfer portal
Former Washington High School football player William Reid has entered the transfer portal, leaving Chowan University.
In a post to X, Reid made the announcement, saying he had played four games and has two years of eligibility left. Redshirt Sports Transfer Portal broke the news.
Adebayo raising game
Former Northside High basketball star Bam Adebayo has raised his play in December.
After Monday’s win over Brooklyn, he has recorded four games of 20 points or more. He had 21 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in a 114-104 win over Toronto on Dec. 12. He had 25 points in a win over Phoenix and 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in beating Brooklyn.
He had 17 points and 10 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the month, in a 104-97 loss to Oklahoma City on Dec. 20. That’s the game where four Belhaven teens were able to watch him play as part of a special trip arranged by Adebayo’s Bam, Books & Brotherhood.
