Mrs. Ramona Rae Alons Nixon, age 56, of Grimesland, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, NC.
Ramona was born on December 8, 1968, in Washington County, North Carolina, to the late LeRoy Gerald Alons and Donna Jean Dorman Alons. She graduated from Pungo Christian Academy in Belhaven in 1987 and went on to earn an associate’s degree in Travel from the American Business and Fashion School. On March 18, 1989, she married Carl Anthony “Tony” Nixon, who survives her. Ramona had a fulfilling career as a travel consultant with American Express/Hyster Yale in Greenville. Her passion for travel made her the go-to person in the Alons-Nixon family for all things related to vacation planning. In addition to travel, Ramona had a love for cooking, design, and her swimming pool—where she found peace, free from the threat of marine life.
In addition to her husband, Tony, Ramona is survived by her siblings, Debra Ann Alons Pope of Greenville, Scott Lee Alons and his wife Liz of Edenton, and Rodney Ben Alons and his wife Mary of Pantego. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Paulanne Qadoura and her husband Nabil of Cary; brother-in-law, Jeffery Nixon and his wife Joel of Plymouth; and her children in love, Eric Wilson and his wife Heather of Grimesland, along with their grandchild in love, Addison Wilson.
She is further survived by a host of nieces and nephews, Roy Alons and his wife Victoria, Ryan Alons and his wife Rebecca, Amanda Robinson and her husband Matt, Kristin Alons, Kamal Qadoura and his wife Justina, Summer Qadoura, Colby Nixon and his wife Jessica, and Tanner Woolard. Ramona also leaves behind great-nieces and great-nephews, Evelyn Eden Alons, Lillian Carol Alons, Duncan James Robinson, Donna Lee Robinson, C.J. Nixon, Madilyn Nixon, and Zoey Filian.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC, 101 Manning Drive, CB #7600, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
