As we begin the hustle and bustle of the New Year, Sheriff Hammonds and the staff of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that students will be returning to school on January 7.
With the return of students also comes the return of school buses to the roadways of our county. Motorists are encouraged to increase their driving time to allow for slower moving traffic. As a reminder, all motorists must obey the following rules for school buses that have extended their mechanical sign and/or are displaying flashing red lights.
• On a two-lane road, all traffic from both directions must stop.
• On a two-lane road with a center turn lane, all traffic from both directions must stop.
• On a four-lane road without a median, all traffic from both directions must stop.
• On a four-lane road with a median, only traffic following the bus must stop.
Let’s work together to keep our students safe on the roadways!
