Benjamin “Ben” Harding Allen, 80, of Newport News, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 4, 2025. He was a native of Pantego, NC, and graduated from Pantego High School in 1962 and from NCSU with a BS in Mathematics in 1966. Ben worked as a Senior Project Engineer for Newport News Shipbuilding, from which he retired in 2004 after 38 years of service. He was a long-time member of Northampton Christian Church, where he served as a teacher, deacon, elder, treasurer, and many other roles. Ben also served as Trustee to Mid-Atlantic Christian University for 30 years.
Ben was a beloved husband, brother, and friend who enjoyed hunting, sports, and photography. His journey on earth may have ended, but his legacy continues through the strength he demonstrated, the lives he touched, and the cherished memories held by those who knew and loved him.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Edith Allen and brother Gary Allen. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy A. Allen; brothers Daniel W. Allen, Jr. (Pantego NC), Gregory Allen (wife Pam, Chocowinity, NC); sisters-in-law, Karen A. Vaca (Pittsboro NC) and Deliah A. Boyd (Tarboro NC); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Northampton Christian Church with a funeral service, officiated by Stanley Allen, following at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the Davis Cemetery in Pantego, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northampton Christian Church or the Ben and Peggy Allen Scholarship fund at Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
