The Washington Daily News has learned from multiple sources that Washington High School is set to hire Brian Paschal as its next football coach.

The Beaufort County Schools Board of Education must approve the hire before the job can be given to Paschal.

Sources say Paschal would only be the school’s football coach. He retired at the end of the 2023 school year at then Riverside High School, which is now Martin County High School. He would stay retired while serving as Washington’s football coach. An assistant football coach and teaching position is also up for hire at Washington and must be approved by the board before the job is offered.

Paschal is no stranger to Washington High School. He was an assistant football coach and JV baseball coach for the Pam Pack during the 1987 season. He came to Washington after graduating in 1986 from Wake Forest University, where he played on the football team’s offensive line. He is a Winston-Salem native.

Paschal then went to Chocowinity High School and was the head football coach there, replacing DeWayne Kellum before the school merged with Aurora to form Southside High School. Paschal returned to Washington and coached there for eight seasons. He then took the job at Roanoke High School, which later became South Creek High School and merged last year with Riverside High School to form Martin County High School.

Paschal also has stops at D.H. Conley, Bear Grass Charter and Riverside.
