James Winfield Phillips, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2025. He was born in Washington, NC on July 31, 1953 to the late Marjorie Mann and James Winfield Phillips, Sr.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday January 9 at 2:00 PM at Church of the Good Shepard officiated by Pastor Jay Martin. Visitation will take place at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
James was a lifelong resident of Washington. He graduated from Washington High School in 1971 and attended Beaufort Community College. He was involved in the automotive industry for over 50 years. James loved his time boating and skiing on the Pamlico River and spending time with his family and friends on his beloved boat the “Jam-Bee-Jim”. He will always be most remembered for his vibrant, generous lifestyle and tremendous sense of humor.
James is survived by his wife Brenda, his son James Winfield Phillips, III (Shelby) of Washington, his daughter Caroline Phillips Rawls (Bonner) of Roswell, Georgia, three grandchildren, James Winfield Phillips, IV (Win), Hoyt Bonner Rawls and Hudson Litchfield Rawls. He is also survived by his sister Augusta Cole (Steve) of Richmond, Virginia, his brother Charles Phillips (Clarissa), his mother-in-law Olga Buck, his brothers-in-law Joe Buck and Douglas Chrismon along with many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his father-in-law Delon H. Buck and his sister-in-law Sherri Chrismon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in James’s name be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, 2425 N. Market Street, Washington, N. C. 27889 or the charity of one’s choice. Joseph B. Paul, Jr. Funeral Service is honored to serve the Phillips Family.
