D.A. releases details on officer-involved shooting

WASHINGTON – As a follow up to an earlier press release.

On Jan. 9, 2025, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call involving threats during a domestic disturbance on Highway 33 in Chocowinity.

During the interaction between the subject and deputies, at approximately 1:30pm on January 9th, a deputy fired his weapon striking the individual who later died. The SBI received a request from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to investigate this officer-involved shooting involving one of their deputies.

The shooting happened at 1723 NC-33 in Chocowinity. The individual has been identified as Alec Edward Shaw, 19.

The SBI investigation remains ongoing. The deputy is on administrative duties pending the conclusion of the investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
