Former Southside High star recognized again by CIAA

CHARLOTTE — Former Southside High School star KaNyah O’Neal picked up her third CIAA Rookie of the Week honors this season in women’s basketball.
O’Neal, a sophomore business major, helped her team to two victories over three games. Against Lincoln, Pa., on Jan. 6, she came off the bench and played 16 minutes. She had six points, four steals and three assists in her team’s 65-62 loss.
On Jan. 13, in a 77-62 win over Johnson C. Smith, she had two points, two rebounds and three steals in 11 minutes. This past Thursday, O’Neal had 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and five assists in a 65-51 win over Shaw.
Fayetteville State improved to 10-6 overall, 5-2 in the CIAA. The Broncos are currently in first place in the Southern Division of the CIAA.
For the season, O’Neal is averaging 6.4 points and 2.7 rebounds. She’s also among her team’s leaders in assists (24) and steals (34).
The Broncos are at Winston-Salem State for a 5:30 p.m. game on Monday, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
