From Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department

At 2148 hours Blounts Creek Fire Department was alerted to respond automatic aid with Chocowinity Fire Department for a reported residential structure fire.
To lower response times we staffed our station with 3 volunteers due to the winter weather and they were enroute within minutes of the dispatch but due to poor road conditions and low visibility reponse times from all departments was hindered. The fire chief from Chocowinity arrived first and reported a double wide mobile home with fire showing from the Alpha Delta corner and deemed a working fire and assumed command of the scene. Soon after, command reported all occupants had exited the structure and were safe. Chocowinity Engine 6212 was the first apparatus on scene and deployed two 1.75” handlines and fire extinguishment began. Chocowinity Engine 6211 was the next apparatus to arrive and caught a hydrant and secured a water source and also deployed a 1.75” handline. Shortly after Blounts Creek Engine 21 and Rescue 40 along with 11 members of our department arrived and provided scene lighting and manpower for fire suppression. Command requested Vanceboro Fire Department (Craven County) respond as well for additional manpower due to frigid temperatures. Chocowinity Engine 6221 arrived a short time later and deployed two additional 1.75” hand lines with a water supply being fed from Old Ford Fire Department Engine 7121. All crews operated for several hours extinguishing the fire in an air temperature of 19 degrees with a wind chill in single digits and heavy snow fall throughout the incident.
The members from all of our county and city fire departments continuously provide an impeccable service to their respective communities and beyond rain, snow, hurricanes, tornado’s or sunny and 75 degrees they always get the job done.
As an officer of our department i am extremely proud and grateful of our membership and cant thank them enough for what they do.
