CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Southside High School first-year volleyball coach Misty Mooring was recognized as the Coastal Plains Conference Coach of the Year during the fall awards ceremony at the school.
Mooring led the Seahawks to a 7-15 overall record, 5-6 in the conference. Southside was 2-17 overall, 0-10 in 2023.
The Seahawks won two of their last three conference matches to finish fourth in the regular season. East Carteret, which finished third, is a Class 2A school in the conference, which gave Southside the third seed from the conference for the Class 1A playoffs.
Southside beat Lejeune before losing to Pamlico County in the conference tournament. Falls Lake beat Southside in three games in the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs.
