BETHEL, N.C. — Washington’s wrestling team has had a busy week so far. They were hopeful that success would continue on Saturday and beyond.
The Pam Pack won four individual weight class titles at Wednesday’s Eastern Plains Conference Individual Tournament, held at North Pitt High School. A day earlier, the Pack officially wrapped up the regular-season title for the 11th straight year with two wins over Ayden-Grifton, the second by forfeit.
Thursday, the NC High School Athletic Association released the dual team playoff pairings, with Washington getting the No. 2 seed in the East. The Pam Pack will host the first two rounds of the playoffs on Saturday at 1 p.m. with EPC opponents West Craven and Ayden-Grifton joining North Johnston. Washington goes against West Craven first and will face one of the other two teams in the second round.
Washington would likely have to go to Seaforth, the No. 1 seed and the defending East Regional champs, for the next two rounds. Washington fell to Seaforth in the regional final last season.
Washington picked up first-place victories in the EPC tournament from Sam Boltes, Gabe Foreman, Tucker Massie and Bryce Perry. Wyatt Johnson, Cooper Johnson and Trenton Baldree lost in their weight class title matches and got silver medals for placing second. David B-Meza, Josiah Melton, Gabe West and Justin Woolard finished in third place in their respective weight classes’ consolation rounds.
