Washington’s Woolard wins 50 freestyle, 2nd in 100 freestyle at regionals, headed to states

CARY, N.C. — Washington High School junior Aubrey Woolard won the women’s 50-yard freestyle and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle on Friday at the Class 2A East Regional swimming competition at Triangle Aquatic Center.
Woolard finished the 50-yard freestyle in 24.13 seconds, according to information from the NC High School Athletic Association. Woolard then finished just behind Excelsior’s Madelyn Vanasek in the 100-meter freestyle. Vanasek won in 58.61 while Woolard placed at 58.86.
Woolard will participate in the Class 1A/2A state championship on Feb. 8 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
Woolard was also part of the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team that just missed out on going to states. The Pam Pack placed fifth in 1:54.97. Northeast Carolina Prep finished fourth in 1:54.54.

— Men’s 100-yard breaststroke: Tyson Miller, 12th, 1:17.70
— Men’s 400-yard freestyle relay: 9th, 4:15.82
