Chamber of Commerce celebrates 121st annual banquet

The Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 121st Annual Membership Banquet on Thursday evening at the Washington Civic Center, bringing together over 200 chamber members to celebrate the achievements of local businesses and individuals.

This year’s event took a unique approach, incorporating nearly 40 chamber members from the audience throughout the evening. Jack Dugan, director of the Small Business Center Network at Beaufort County Community College, emceed the event, embracing the persona of “Reginald Shoemaker” to add a comedic element to the program.

“We were thrilled with the excellent turnout and wanted to provide a fresh twist to the program,” said Catherine Glover, Executive Director of the Chamber. “The energy in the room was palpable, and we’re excited about the future of the chamber.”

The banquet honored several outstanding individuals and businesses for their contributions to the community:

  • Young Professional of the Year: Ellen Brabo
  • Entrepreneur of the Year: Kyle Barnes and Bryan Pair
  • Small Business of the Year: Engravers World/Rutledge Mini Storage
  • Community Impact Award for Business: Urgent Care Down East
  • Community Impact Award for Bright Futures: Beth Wilder
  • Community Leader of the Year: Stacey Drakeford
  • Business of the Year: Flatlands Jessup Insurance Group

Additionally, the chamber recognized board member Read Allen for his dedicated service, having completed two full terms on the board. Penny Coltrain was also honored as the outgoing President of the Chamber Board, acknowledging her leadership and contributions over the past year.

“It was a great evening that highlighted the importance of our vibrant business community,” said Stuart O’Neal, President of the Chamber Board, emphasizing the evening’s significance. “The dedication and hard work of our members continue to drive our collective success.”

As the Chamber embraces its 2025 theme, “Revive, Connect, Thrive: Strengthening Business Together,” the evening served as a powerful reminder of the impact that local businesses and community leaders have in shaping the region’s economic growth and success.
