Mr. Kenneth Wayne Barber, age 80, a resident of 1768 John Small Ave., Washington, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at University Health Systems-Beaufort Hospital.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakdale Cemetery of Washington, officiated by Dennis R. Davis. Lance Pippin, Drew Pippin, Toby Woolard Jr., Roger Bullock, Kenneth Paul Barber and Christopher Boyd will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Barber was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 19, 1930, to the late Metrell Barber and Aline Richardson Barber. For over 34 years, he owned and operated Barber’s Gulf service station in Washington. On Feb. 14, 1988, he married the former Eva Cutler, who survives. Mr. Barber enjoyed his work and meeting people. He never met a stranger. Mr. Barber attended Everett’s Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife of the home, Mr. Barber is survived by his sons: David A. Barber of Pink Hill, Kenneth Ray Barber of Washington, and Donald L. Barber of Williamston; his  stepchildren: Brenda Pippin and husband Freddie of Wilson; Faye Ingalls and husband Walt of Washington; and Toby Woolard Sr. and wife Donna of Washington; a sister, Irene B. Griffin of Bayboro; grandchildren, April B. Staples of New Bern, Elisabeth B. Biehl of New Bern, Kenneth P. Barber of Roper, and Dustin Barber of Washington. Mr. Barber is also survived by several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barber is preceded in death by his first wife: Marlene Barber; two brothers, Norwood Barbour and Vernon Barber; and a son, Ronald Barber.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1768 John Small Ave., Washington. Mr. Barber will lie in state at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory from noon Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday.
