Davey Ann Burbage and Haley Hiatt were jumping away, Casey Lewis was running circles around the competition and Akida Spencer was soaring all afternoon.
It was that kind of team effort that helped the Washington Lady Pam Pack defend their home track with a win over Hertford County and Northside in Tuesday’s tri-meet. The Pack finished with 95 points, followed by Hertford County (56) and Northside (24).
The Washington boys settled for second place with 72 points, 15 points behind Hertford County (87). Northside took third (22).
Spencer was solid in the jumping events. She placed first in the long jump (14 feet, 3 inches) and triple jump (30-8).
Lewis was a triple winner Tuesday. She won the 1,600-meter run in 6 minutes, 53 seconds, while also taking the 3,200-meter run in 15:06. Lewis was also a part of the winning 3,200-meter relay (11:39) team. She was joined by Burbage, Jordan Cantrell and Elizabeth Tanner.
Burbage and Hiatt tied for first place in the high jump event, as both cleared 4-4.
Sharita Grice took first in the discus (113-10) and second in the shot put (31-10).
Cantrell added a first-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:56).
Burbage, Cantrell, Tanner and Vantasia Palmer combined for the winning 1,600-meter relay team (4:41).
Hiatt, Palmer, Shiquana Rascoe and Shakillya Williams joined forces to pull out the 800-meter relay (2:02.96).
Injuries slowed down the Pack boys Tuesday. Blank is hoping the injuries aren’t serious.
That wasn’t the only concern Blank had after the meet.
Dylan Mizelle turned in a solid day in the distance events for the Pam Pack. He posted victories in the 3,200-meter run (11:46) and 1,600-meter run (5:13).
Dakuan Spencer snagged a pair of first-place finishes. The junior coasted to wins in the 110-meter hurdles (15.98) and in the 300-meter hurdles (45.10).
Jarees Griffin was also a double winner as he took the long jump (20-4) and triple jump (40-1).
Melvin Spruill continued his solid season in the 400-meter dash, winning in 52.12.
Spruill also helped the 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams to victories. He was joined on the 800 team (1:34.44) by Raheam Patterson, William Ellegor and Darien Peele, and was joined on the 1,600 team by Aaron Quinones, Raphael Gibbs and Peele.
The Pack is back home Thursday. South Central and J.H. Rose are among the teams expected to compete.
