Lt. Colonel Hugh William “Bill” Pacella, II (Ret.) passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Bill was born on April 24, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the son of Hugh William Pacella and the late Elaine Madelyn Thompson Pacella. He was raised in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1962. He continued on to George Washington University and graduated in 1968. Bill and his family spent 20 years in Springfield, VA where Bill was a Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Air Force as a Budget Analyst. After retirement from the Air Force, he spent ten years as Vice President of the family business, Washington Florist Exchange in Washington, DC. He then went on to serve as Director, Programs and Budget for the Joint Medical Information Systems Office before retiring to Cypress Landing in Chocowinity, NC in 2006. Bill cherished time with his family and grandchildren and especially enjoyed the days out on the golf course and near the water.
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Paula Gibson Pacella of Chocowinity; his father, Hugh William Pacella; his adoring children, Kathryn Petrak and husband Chris of Plainfield, IL and William T. Pacella of Durham, NC. He will be warmly remembered and forever loved by his precious granddaughters, Madeline Petrak and Emma Petrak, both of Plainfield, IL. He also leaves with us two faithful canine companions, Casey and Barkley. He is also survived by several cousins in Alexandria, VA.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two aunts, Lyla Pacella and Helen Pacella of Pittsburgh.
