This art doesn’t hang on a wall — it hangs on you.
Eight makers of “wearable art” gathered Saturday for a showcase at Inner Banks Artisans’ Center in Washington.
Models —among them the artists themselves — clad in handcrafted wraps, scarves jewelry and more characterized the noon-to-3 p.m. celebration.
The purpose of this show was to emphasize “art that you can actually put on and use,” said Jan Lamoreaux, a silk painter.
“For a gallery, frequently it’s only what hangs on the wall,” she added.
Not so with Inner Banks Artisans’ Center, she indicated.
Door prizes, contributed by each participating artist, were given away to customers.
Wine and hors d’oeuvres were served.
“This is a wonderful venue for all of us,” said Dottie Walker, another silk painter, stationed in the coffeehouse in back of the gallery.
Inner Banks Artisans’ Center represents 80 artists, with 30 more on a waiting list, Walker pointed out.
Also taking part in the wearable show were artists Alice Faucette, B.J. Heller, Doris Schneider, Mary Kay Whelan, Sue Beck and Anne Holton.
