Washington, NC — Mrs. Kathryn “Cassie” Fernea Maki, age 87, of 104 Morehead Dr., Washington, NC, was called peacefully home by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, Washington with The Rev. Carter Askren officiating. Mrs. Maki’s grandchildren, Chris Braddy, Eric Braddy, and Jeremy Braddy, along with Drew Lautenslager and Will Gautier will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 13, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mrs. Maki was born November 5, 1921 in Ishpeming, Michigan to Charles and Agnes Fernea. On December 27, 1946 she married Richard W. “Dick” Maki who preceded her in death. Cassie was a homemaker and along with her husband were charter members of Grace Lutheran Church in Washington. She was also a member of the senior group “Silver Threads”. Cassie was also an avid bingo player at the Moose Lodge and the Redman’s Lodge.
Survivors include her children, Richard Maki, Jr. of Mechanicsville, VA, Marilyn M. Braddy and husband Steve of Blounts Creek, NC, Susie Bell and husband Glenn of Chocowinity, NC, and David P. Maki of Washington, NC; one sister, Jeanne F. Nylander; six grandchildren, Christopher A. Braddy, Eric S. Braddy, Brook M. Lautenslager (Drew), Jeremy S. Braddy, Jamie B. Gautier (Will), and Jeri R. Bell; one great-grandson, Avery M. Gautier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Cliff Fernea.
