It’s curtains — curtains up, that is — for the cast of “Bugsy Malone Jr.” at P.S. Jones Middle School.

This flapper-era musical spoof opens at 7:30 tonight in the school’s cafetorium.

The play pits gangster guys and gals against one another under the watchful eye of one Bugsy Malone, a pinstriped peacemaker who disarms the competition.

But there’s no conventional, Chicago-style gunplay here — these hoods assault each other with silly string.

“The moral of the story at the end is that Bugsy Malone, a guy that’s part of neither one of the (warring) groups, is trying to get them to be friends with one another,” said Neva Cashion, the production’s director and the school’s music teacher.

Malone succeeds in his aims, sending his best girl off to stage stardom in the process.

“The Bugsy guy is kind of a gangster, but he’s not the one that’s involved in all the fighting,” Cashion advised. “He’s more of a peacemaker.”

“Bugsy Malone Jr.,” an abbreviated version of the play for young performers, is based on the original work with music and lyrics Paul Williams and book by Alan Parker.

The show opens at 7:30 tonight and runs at the same time Friday and Saturday.
